The Academy provides the nurturing, guidance and inspiration needed to sustain long term success within this wonderful yet challenging industry.
We fuel potential and springboard latent talent amongst individuals who might otherwise not be able to access the kind of expertise and experience needed to pursue a career in commercial music production.
Founded by Grammy-winning producer Fraser T Smith, in partnership with Music Guardians, MPG, PPL, and Virtuoso, the academy’s mission is to discover 16 young people from all across the UK to join an exclusive programme dedicated to nurturing the next generation of producers. Participants will benefit from ten months of one to one mentorship, hands-on studio experience and wisdom shared by leading professionals in the music industry. Remarkably, the academy is unique in aiming to guarantee work placements within the music sector upon successful completion of the programme.
We want to disrupt the notion that to succeed in music you must be based in London and as such our taught sessions will take place at various leading studios in different cities across the UK.
This course is open to young people from all abilities from across the UK aged 16 to 24.
Applications open on 13 February and close on 10 April 2025.
The programme will commence in September 2025 and includes 10 monthly in-person seminars. At the heart of Future Producer Academy are our five core values: Diversity, Integrity, Kindness, Community and Excellence. If you demonstrate these values, we want to hear from you.
Fraser T Smith is a multi-award-winning, internationally acclaimed artist, producer, songwriter and musician – one of the most in demand creators in contemporary music today. He has co-written, mixed and produced 7 Number One singles in the UK, 2 Billboard Number One singles in the US, and contributed to 18 Number One albums.
Having spent most of his career producing and songwriting for some of the biggest artists in the world (Adele, Stormzy, Sam Smith, Florence and The Machine, Drake, Gorillaz, Kano, Dave and more) he released his own debut album, 12 Questions, in October 2020 under the moniker Future Utopia. 12 Questions features an incredible roll call of some of Britain’s most vital and brilliant artists, including Stormzy, Dave, Kano, Ghetts, Bastille, Es Devlin, Simon Armitage and Idris Elba. The album discusses issues including faith, freedom, race, gender, wealth, equality and ecology – all born of Fraser’s own anxieties about the world today. In 2021, Fraser won the Ivor Novello Award for ‘Best Contemporary Song’ for Children of the Internet, his collaboration with Dave, taken from 12 Questions.
After been recognised at the Music Producer’s Guild with an Outstanding Contribution Award in 2023, Fraser felt this was an ideal opportunity to launch Future Producer Academy in order to respond to the diversity and economic imbalance that he has witnessed in the creative sector during the past twenty years.
Kimberley Goddard and Katy Hall started working together in 2021, running the industry department at the prestigious East London Arts & Music, Kimberley as Director of Industry Partnerships and Katy as Head of Industry Readiness. They launched Music Guardians in June 2023, an organisation that promotes and supports the safe entry of young people into the music industry in response to the lack of provision that currently exists. With the safety of young people at the heart of their ethos, Music Guardians also consult with organisations who work with young people, advising and training on industry engagement and safeguarding best practice.
Kimberley and Katy have identified critical safety gaps in the pathways for young people entering the music industry—issues that are often overlooked.
Kimberley has over 15 years of experience in the music industry. Signed to a major label at 17, her early career as an artist sparked her passion for live music. Kimberley has worked with some of the top names across the music industry including Universal Music, YouTube Music, Ridley Scott, Puma, and others, leveraging her extensive network in the creative industries.
Katy has 16 years of experience in education, working in inner-city London secondary schools. At ELAM, she transitioned from teaching English to becoming the Industry Readiness Manager, helping young people secure paid opportunities in the creative industries.
Together, Kimberley and Katy bring unmatched expertise in creating safer, more effective pathways for young people in the music industry.
They are founding partners of Future Producer Academy, and are working closely with Fraser to build the academy to the highest standard possible.
The Future Producer Academy is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to advancing equality in the music industry, with a focus on music production. Founded by Grammy Award-winning producer Fraser T Smith, who has collaborated with global superstars including Adele, Stormzy, Dave, Snow Patrol and Kae Tempest, the academy offers a unique and unparalleled opportunity for the next generation. Each year, 16 aspiring music producers from across the UK will be selected to participate in this transformative programme.
Future Producer Academy’s mission is to provide opportunities for aspiring young music producers to succeed in their desired field by being given access to unparalleled music production tuition. We have partnered with leading figures in the UK music industry and will provide mentorship from some of the most esteemed professionals from across the sector as well as securing a paid work placement upon completion. The Future Producer Academy welcomes applications from anyone aged between 16 and 24 who resides in the UK with an interest in developing their knowledge of music production. There is no expectation to have any experience in production software or have produced any music.
Future Producer Academy is actively working to balance the music industry in terms of diversity, inclusion and representation and so whilst the application process is open to everyone who meets the required criteria, we will be actively seeking to recruit from underrepresented groups, particularly those who are specifically not represented in music production.
The academy is currently non-funded and as we continue to actively seek the funding which will enable us to offer more opportunities to more young people, we need to collect certain pieces of data regarding your protected characteristics. It would help us enormously if you would provide us with this information; however if you are not comfortable doing so, you will see an option on the application form that allows you to opt out of providing certain personal information.
Thank you for your interest in Future Producer Academy.
